Medburgarplatsen
activeA burger map of Södermalm, built from a Swedish pun.
The pun: “Medborgarplatsen” (Citizen’s Square, a busy central square on Södermalm in Stockholm) → “Medburgarplatsen” (roughly: Burger Citizen’s Square). It works better in Swedish.
What it is
A map of burger places on Södermalm, starting from Medborgarplatsen and radiating outward. Each spot gets a short note — nothing elaborate, just enough to help you decide if it’s worth the detour on your next visit.
No star ratings, no sponsored placements, no listicle format. Just a map with honest notes.
Both domains point to the same site:
Why it exists
It started as a test of a mapping stack. Then the pun happened. Then shipping it seemed more fun than abandoning it.
Södermalm has a good density of burger places for its size, and Medborgarplatsen is the natural center of gravity for the neighborhood. The map reflects that — it’s not an exhaustive directory, it’s a useful starting point for anyone who wants a burger and is already in the area.
The pun, explained
Medborgarplatsen = “Medborgar” (citizen) + “platsen” (the square/place).
Medburgarplatsen = “Med” + “burger” + “platsen” — with burger inserted into the citizen.
It sounds almost exactly the same in conversational Swedish. This is the entire joke.
